I remember it was revealed that Joan's biological father has schizophrenia/mental illness and lives on the streets. Am I correct in thinking her mother remarried and that man is the deceased father hinted at in season one? I thought Joan's father was dead in season one, but am I making an assumption there?

If there are two dads, is the Watson name from her biological dad or from the man her mother remarried?

I am working on a fanfic idea and I like to be clear on the facts, I just can't rmember if it was established that the man who raised Joan with her mother was deceased and the man who is her homeless biological dad is Watson Sr. Does anyone know?

Joan's mom divorced her biological dad when Joan was 3 and when she remarried she had Joan and her siblings take her stepdad's last name. Hope that clears everything up.

Neither her biological nor stepfather are deceased as far as we know. Joan did say she hadn't seen her biological father recently. As pointed out Watson is their stepfather's name and the kids took his last name. In the pilot episode it was mentioned that her mother/stepfather were estranged due to an affair on his part. The stepfather is also Caucasian based on a photo from the pilot.
