Was this post late? I kept refreshing as the show came on but didn't see it within the first few minutes so I gave up.

No worries. This is my first time joining the comm and I didn't know if it had episode discussions. I was dreading that it didn't when I didn't see a post but I'm glad that's not the case. Can't wait for next week. :)

I think it was an ok episode. I don't think Watson was being heartless she is trying to be a good sober companion. Her job is supposed to end and the addict is supposed to move on. I think when Watson tries to move she'll realize she misses Sherlock and there adventures. But you can tell in last nights episode she kept trying to distance herself. They will work it out eventually. Plus next weeks episode looks way awesome!

THIS. It's a measure of professional and personal integrity for Watson to wrap up her job as sober companion before discussing any other kind of working relationship between them. Holmes is in a lot more denial about this than Watson -- I think she's already considering the career change, but they'll have to figure out how to make it work financially (among other things, including putting a stop to his barging into her room, assuming she returns to the brownstone) without the checks from Dad. I don't see how she'd go along with that in any way.

I never get a chance to watch until it's on the web. Is it okay to make my comments here then?

It's always the little interactions I love. Like Sherlock sadly shaking his head in the background as Joan asks if the kitchen's clean yet. Or that he brings her spaghetti in a mug. <3

too much suspension of disbelief. I mean, I don't really expect much from TV writers but both as a Russian and as a human being a sense of logic the writing here was ridiculously weak.

why would russian spies do anything so stupid as retain deducable bits of their culture lying around?

I'm not expert on spying but a lot of the assumptions made in the episode were dumb. If you're going to want a second-gen spy you're obviously going to have to groom her. Just dropping "hey, you're going to act a spy now, okay?" on 17 year old girl is a stupid idea as anyone with a brain could see.

Oh also the fact that the dad could just casually blackmail his spy-wife and handler and still be, well, alive and doing his job.

I could buy someone getting that attached to their kids (sort of. good spies aren't really the type) but I can't buy him being SO STUPID as to go about protecting her in that way.

also why why why was their handler so confident he'd be traded back. (or that he'd talk at all. >>) spies that get caught get burned. Especially in this situation where the stakes are relatively low -- they haven't infiltrated anywhere important and they obviously don't know anything big.

I could go on and on. the stupid killed my brain here.
