I thought that was a riff on the famous riddle of the man hanging dead from the ceiling above a puddle of water in a room with no furniture and locked from the inside, which I always thought came from Sherlock Holmes, but google won't confirm this so I must be wrong.

It would be screamingly famous if it were canon. The hanging clown/man, puddle of water, riddle - only involves a block of melted ice, not dry ice under the bed. Curious where the dry ice one originated.
