Five episodes in and it's like Sherlock and Joan's relationship is going ass-backwards. First, Mycroft is back in his life and the brothers resort to old habits. Then he gets the letter from Moriarty which he has yet to tell Joan about (all after he declared he was "post-love"). And now we find out he STALKED ONE OF HER FRIENDS in order to get information on Joan, and had sex with Jen. (Granted, Jen wanted and initiated the sex, and this sort of thing is in-character for him, but still. It's Not Right.) And yet it's all swept away.
And what about Joan's development? Only one episode so far this season has been remotely devoted to her backstory and her development. I wouldn't even say the plotline with Jen contributed much, other than to introduce someone else who is in Joan's circle to us.
The case was also pretty meh. Next week's looks better, though.
On the plus side, I like Jen. She can come back. :)
Seconding everything you said. I had a similar thought about how Sherlock's behaviour was very Sherlock Holmes, but not really ~right for this Sherlock.
I'm glad you found something positive to say about it, too. :-) All I could do was rant, really.
This show -- So we're supposed to believe that Jen seriously wants Joan to track her one-night stand from a year ago and Jen doesn't supply a description? Of his *tattoos*?
I love the characters, but the cases beggar belief.
I enjoyed the previous episodes very much, so I'm rather disappointed with this one. Both Joan's 'case' and the main case left me shaking my head incredulously. This episode reminds me very much of the clumsy, we-don't-yet-know-what-we're-doing-here vibe of the first episodes of season 1.
When I watched the episode my thought was 'good the writers are giving Joan a decent case' but I'm sorry to say that wasn't so. For me it worse then that whole deal with the dry cleaners during season 1. Just who did they hire to write this things anyway?
