I'm thinking actor availability and also we need some reason for the dramatic season finale where Sherlock uses again. That's not a spoiler by the way, just a guess.

I disagree. Given the screen time he got, they could have had Sherlock get a call receiving news of Alistair relapsing, with him in the hospital, and then (if they still wanted to) have Alistair die at the end with Sherlock at his side. It would have accomplished the same goal.

I just think it's a shame. Alistair was an interesting character.

the dramatic season finale where Sherlock uses again Huh, that's interesting. I hadn't thought of that. At the beginning of the season I suspected some major showdown with Moriarty and/or Mycroft, but your guess seems much more likely now.

Yeah, I totally think Sherlock will either use or come very very close to using. My theory is that his sponsoree does a nose dive and overdoses because Sherlock blows him off for a case and Sherlock turns back to the junk in response.

To be honest I thought the episode was prettty good and yes, it sucked that the writers killed off Alister a character that we barely got to know: ( I think I understand why they did it: to make Sherlock face the fact that not everyone survives living with their addictions. Sometimes it's easier to just give in.

I hate to compare this show to Sherlock because Sherlock has the advantage of picking and choosing the most dramatic cases to be the ones on screen while Elementary has to grind out 22 episodes per season.... but quantity isn't quality and this episode, while well done from an acting and performance stand, just felt slapped together. Forty pounds of anthrax really?

I liked it. I generally enjoyed the last few episodes a lot. Although the navel-gazing on Sherlock's part is starting to grate on my nerves. Especially in this episode, the whole let's talk about Sherlock's feeling shebang was way over the top. It felt like the 'message' was slapped into my face like a wet fish (unsubtle and uncomfortable). And simultaneously we know hardly anthing about Joan.

This was also another filler episode and I'm really missing progress for the larger story arcs. What's up with Moriarty and Mycroft?

I still enjoy watching, but there is so much wasted potential here. Oh well, at least not as much as in Sherlock's latest season.
