The game is afoot once more. Today, CBS announced they’ve renewed Elementary for a fifth season, which will air during the 2016-2017 season.

A modern update of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic Sherlock Holmes stories, Elementary stars Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson. The drama also stars Aidan Quinn and Jon Michael Hill.

Currently in its fourth season, Elementary has seen some change this year. Recently, CBS moved the series from its usual Thursday timeslot to Sundays. The move doesn’t seem to have made a noticeable difference in the ratings. So far, this season has dipped by about 20%, with a 1.03 rating in the 18-49 demo and around 5.79 million viewers.

NEW YORK: CBS Consumer Products has signed its first licensing deal for Elementary with Titan Publishing Group, which has agreed to release a series of original novels based on the successful drama in 2014.

The books will be created in collaboration with the show's production team. Set in modern-day New York City, they will revolve around the lives of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.

The cast of Elementary is led by Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu. The program was recently greenlit for a second season and currently airs on CBS on Thursdays at 10 p.m.

"Elementary is a dynamic series with many fascinating stories," said Liz Kalodner, the executive VP and general manager of CBS Consumer Products. "The novels will feature Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in all-new adventures that will further engage fans in the mysterious world of Elementary."

Basically, they're creating books based off of a show that is based off of books. Maybe they'll be better than those Supernatural ones. I'd rather see some kind of graphic novel or a children's book involving the adventures of Clyde.
