I so wanted Irene Adler to be something, ANYTHING other than a love interest.. A police officer or fellow detective whose death Sherlock feels responsible for. Or a... I don't know, but something other than, "Wah, my girlfriend died!". Because I don't care about that as a motive. I don't care about Irene as a girlfriend. This is going to be the plot arc for at least the rest of the season, and I don't give a shit about it.

Like, I think Irene as Love Interest can be saved, but IDK if I have that much faith in the writers. Like, it could be that Sherlock calls Irene his girlfriend, but really they also had a not-quite relationship like he does with Joan. Or, or... yeah, I just feel like it could be saved, but my faith in popular media isn't that great.

This! They fridge (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WomenInRefrigerators) Irene? Seriously? It's hard to swallow because Elementary's done so well in regards to women.

Yeah, see to me the very premise is just flat out DO NOT WANT. So... yeah.

This! They fridge Irene?

I don't think she's dead, frankly. Of course, it's still using the (supposed) death of a female character to advance a man's story arc. Hmm... is it still "fridging" if the character's not actually dead?

I'm hoping she's alive, but until she's canonically alive, I'm going to assume the worst because TV tends to do that.

Hee... fair enough.

my personal headcanon is that sherlock was infatuated with irene in a possible dom/sub relationship (might have taken that from the other series, but elementary!sherlock feels more like a sub than bbc!sherlock who feels more like a dom) but she didn't reciprocate and faked her death to get away from sherlock.

starting to doubt the writers will make it that twisted tho...

Oooh, I'd be down for this. Especially if it's treated better than BBC verse. Otherwise I think it's going to be too similar to BBC verse.

That wouldn't be very hard...

I agree, though, given BBC!Irene's profession, I think they might want to steer clear of having D/s be a part of the Sherlock/Irene relationship for this show.

Even if Irene isn't a Dom there's the possibility for an actual TV relationship that isn't the cookie-cutter stuff we usually see (as in, negotiating partners' various needs and possibly open relationship?). Buuuut, I'm not holding my breath.
