I was really hoping the companion dynamic would be out of the way by now. It's an incredibly annoying device meant to keep the viewer...I dunno, anxious? But the show is built around the Joan/Sherlock dynamic, so we know it's not going anywhere, which makes this whole thing really stupid. What I want Joan to do is ask Gregson for a favor so she can take the police exam as soon as possible and begin to build a career as a cop. Though, now that I think about it, that would stall the show, since she's have to be in uniform for at least three years before being promoted to detective.
I wonder what the writers are going to do to resolve this companion dilemma. Unless they plan to keep Sherlock teetering on the edge forever in regards to his mental health, though now that Joan is staying of her own volition it's a different dynamic, which makes me think that there's a plan, because the easy thing to do would have been to have Sherlock's father agree to Joan's extension.
